Attack of the lurgies
I didn't realise I had the immune system of a Victorian workhouse urchin until my son started nursery.
Everyone told me it would happen but I still wasn’t prepared. When my son started nursery at the start of February it only took a week for him to catch his first lurgy. And of course, the whole house came down. Yes, even the cat.
They’ve all rolled into one in my head but that first one was the dreaded norovirus, I think. Horrific.
Healing takes a bit longer when you can’t actually take a sick day. Grandparents came to the rescue (thank God they aren’t very far away), but even so we were decimated.
And the lurgies kept on coming - cold, flu, coughs, fevers, snot - a constant stream escaping all our noses. Days off nursery for fevers or vomiting, and the guilt of being back at work but missing most of it.
Tonsillitis got me this past week, and I’m praying it’s the last one. Spring is here, the daffodils are out, and the sun is shining.
We’ve recently started feeding the ducks in the local park. My son finds it hilarious. I get excited about these little rituals and joys, introducing my son to new things as he grows.
So while I’m hoping for a few months of health, even if more lurgies come we’ve got the brighter days ahead, with all the new experiences they will bring.

Things I’m enjoying:
Severance on Apple TV - smart, slick, perfectly weird and totally addictive
Bad Sisters on Apple TV - nostalgic for me as it’s set in Dublin, witty and full of heart
Emily Sutton’s recent talk with Orange Beak Studio
